Torquay - “the clean beach capital of England!”
Torbay has around 22 beaches altogether, and a record-breaking 16 of them have scooped national awards for cleanliness! No wonder it can claim to be the “clean beach capital of England”.
For the first time this summer six Blue Flags will fly at Torbay beaches, including Meadfoot, which is the closest beach to the Devonshire, Oddicombe, Broadsands and Breakwater, with Preston and Paignton being new additions.
And 10 beaches have also secured Quality Coast Awards for being clean and safe — Maidencombe, Oddicombe, Meadfoot, Preston, Broadsands, Ansteys Cove, Torre Abbey, Paignton, Goodrington and Brixham Breakwater.
The awards have been announced by the Keep Britain Tidy anti-litter charity and follow last summer’s bathing water tests by the Environment Agency.
Torbay is the top resort in Britain for the number of Blue Flags and Quality Coast Awards, two very prestigious and highly regarded awards. Our beaches are fantastic and this global recognition confirms they are clean and safe.
